LİR, 5 – 6

by İlhan Berk

Dilin ‘fosil şiirenden’ söz eder Emmerson.

Buna ayakbasılmadık dil demeli.

Şiiren ufku da orda baş verir.

Emerson talks of the ‘fossil poems’ of the language.

It ought to be called the untouched language.

The poem’s horizon starts there.

Nesneler, imgeler gibi şairlere verilmiştir.

Ama korku saçar nesneler!

Ben bunu hep yaşadım.

Objects, like images, are given to poets.

But objects spread fear!

I always felt this.

English translation by George Messo
